Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love is a tactical strategy RPG developed by Global Entertainment R&D Dept. 2, released in 2005 for PlayStation 2 and Wii. The game centers on character interaction through a sim-based narrative system in which the player's dialogue choices and responses to other characters directly influence story events and the final outcome, rather than following a fixed predetermined path. Combat is split between ground and aerial engagements, with units piloting two-legged mechanized suits that can transform mid-battle into jet fighters. This transformation meaningfully alters each unit's capabilities — the protagonist, for instance, wields a sword in mech form but switches to long-range missiles once airborne. The combination of relationship-driven storytelling drawn from visual novel conventions and a dual-mode tactical battle system gives the game a distinctive structure that sets it apart from conventional entries in the RPG genre.
