Samurai Shodown III is a 1995 weapon-based fighting game developed by SNK, released across multiple platforms including Arcade, Neo Geo AES, Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and others. It was conceived as a deliberate tonal shift for the franchise, moving away from the lighter sensibility of its predecessors toward a markedly darker aesthetic. Several comedic or eccentric characters from earlier entries — including Earthquake, Cham Cham, and Gen-an — were removed entirely from the roster. The characters who remained were completely redrawn, with even flamboyant figures like kabuki performer Kyoshiro Senryo reimagined as a stern, muscular fighter bearing little resemblance to his earlier incarnation. The visual overhaul extended to animation quality as well; all characters move with notably smoother fluidity compared to the second installment, representing a clear departure from that game's graphical approach.
