Shadow of Rome is a hack-and-slash action-adventure game developed by Capcom and released for PlayStation 2 in 2005. Set in 44 B.C., it follows the aftermath of Julius Caesar's assassination, an event that throws the already corruption-ridden Roman Republic into further turmoil. A soldier named Agrippa becomes entangled in the crisis when his father is accused of the murder and sentenced to be executed by whichever gladiator wins an upcoming arena event. Players alternate between two protagonists — Agrippa and his close friend Octavius — each offering a distinct style of play. Agrippa engages directly in brutal gladiatorial combat, while Octavius employs stealth and cunning to navigate the political intrigue surrounding the conspiracy. A female gladiator also factors into their efforts to exonerate Agrippa's father and expose the true architects of Caesar's death.
