Brave New World is the second expansion pack for Sid Meier's Civilization V, developed by Firaxis Games and released in 2013 for PC, Mac, and Linux. Building on the base game's turn-based strategy foundation, the expansion deepens the cultural and diplomatic dimensions of empire-building by introducing international trade routes, a World Congress where players propose and vote on global resolutions, and an ideology system that shapes a civilization's identity and its standing with rivals. Great Works — artifacts of culture generated by certain units and buildings — become a meaningful source of influence across the world map. The expansion adds nine new civilizations, eight new wonders, four new gameplay systems, two additional scenarios, and numerous new units, buildings, and tile improvements. Together these elements widen the range of viable strategies for constructing and sustaining a dominant empire across the arc of human history.
