Sonic Riders is a racing game developed by NOW Production and released in 2006 for Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, and PC, marking the fourth entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog racing series following Sonic Drift, Sonic Drift 2, and Sonic R. Published to coincide with the franchise's 15th anniversary, the game has players competing on hoverboards called Extreme Gear across a variety of courses. It introduces several new characters to the series, including the Babylon Rogues and the E-10000 series robots, expanding the roster beyond familiar faces. The Xbox version briefly shipped with a bonus Sonic X DVD at launch. Sonic Riders holds the distinction of being the final Sonic title released on both the GameCube and Xbox platforms. It was later followed by Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity in 2008 and Sonic Free Riders in 2010.
