South Park is a first-person shooter developed by Appaloosa Interactive and released in 1998 for Nintendo 64, PlayStation, and PC. The single-player campaign is structured as a Story mode consisting of five episodes spread across fifteen linear levels, with each episode pitting players against a distinct set of weak enemy minions and periodic sub-bosses that attempt to flee into town. Each episode concludes with a dedicated boss encounter. Players cycle through the four main characters from the series by switching between an eccentric arsenal that includes yellow snowballs, cow launchers, and toxic Terrance and Phillip dolls, with every weapon offering a secondary fire mode. All four characters share one life bar. The kids provide running commentary tied to in-game events, with stronger profanity bleeped out; as health drops, their dialogue grows angrier and cruder until, at the point of defeat, they abandon their mission to save the town entirely.

A mysterious comet is approaching the earth; described by the opening narration as a force of concentrated evil that no force of good can stand against. As it comes closer, South Park is beset by enemies; including rabid mutant turkeys, deformed clones of the townsfolk, alien visitors, berserk robots, and sentient killer toys. Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny hear about the dangers from Chef, and take up arms to investigate their sources and defend the town.
