Spy Hunter is an overhead driving and shooting arcade game developed by Bally Midway and released in 1983, later ported to numerous home platforms including the Atari 2600, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, ColecoVision, and DOS, among others. The player controls an armed spy vehicle traveling along a scrolling road, using mounted machine guns to eliminate enemy cars while avoiding harm to civilian traffic. Periodically, a weapons van appears; pulling into its rear hatch equips the car with additional tools such as oil slicks, smoke screens, or missiles. Enemies respond aggressively, attempting to force the player off the road, launching fire from limousines, and deploying helicopter-dropped bombs. At certain junctions, the road leads into a boathouse that temporarily converts the vehicle into a boat. The environment also shifts through seasons, with winter segments introducing hazardous icy road conditions.
