The Getaway is a sandbox crime game developed by Team Soho and released in 2002 exclusively for PlayStation 2. Set against a faithfully recreated, high-resolution rendering of London, the game draws its tone and style from British gangland films such as Get Carter and Snatch. Originally planned to coincide with the PlayStation 2's launch in 2000, development ran 27 months over schedule due to the considerable technical challenge of modeling large sections of the city in detail. The finished game blends on-foot shooting with driving across its open urban environment. Its depiction of London proved notable enough that footage from the game appeared in multiple episodes of Graham Duff's television series Ideal, reflecting the accuracy and atmosphere Team Soho achieved in their reconstruction of the capital.
