The King of Fighters XII is a 2D fighting game developed by SNK Playmore, released in 2009 for Arcade, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Marking the series' 15th anniversary, this twelfth entry was rebuilt entirely from scratch, introducing high-resolution character sprites and backgrounds alongside a revised battle system. Matches follow the franchise's established 3-vs-3 format, though the tag mechanic from the previous installment has been dropped. The roster consists of 22 returning fighters, with two exclusive to the home versions. Modes include a five-round arcade time attack, online and local versus play, practice, and replay viewing, as well as an unlockable art gallery.
