TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is a first-person shooter developed by Free Radical Design and released in 2005 for PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and Xbox. The third entry in the TimeSplitters series, it follows TimeSplitters 2 from 2002 and the original TimeSplitters from 2000. The single-player campaign centers on Sergeant Cortez, a marine from the 25th century who travels through time across a series of distinct levels. As the concluding chapter of the trilogy, the game builds on the mechanics and tone established by its predecessors while continuing the series' blend of time-hopping settings and arcade-style combat. Published by EA Games, Future Perfect represents Free Radical Design's third collaboration on the franchise and the studio's effort to bring the storyline involving Cortez and the TimeSplitters threat to a resolution.
The game begins in 2401 when the space marine, Sergeant Cortez, is leaving the space station that he destroyed at the end of TimeSplitters 2. His ship crash lands on the future Earth and two fellow marines greet him. Sergeant Cortez follows his squad of marines through the valley and battles unknown masked figures and TimeSplitters. Cortez is then tasked with following the signatures in the past by time travel thought to be caused by the TimeSplitters. He then goes on a mission to go back in time to find a way to stop the TimeSplitters race from being created.
