Worms: Open Warfare is a 2D turn-based artillery strategy game developed by Team17 and released in 2006 for the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS. Representing a return to the series' 2D roots, it tasks players with commanding a squad of worms against enemy teams, depleting opponents' hit points through careful use of an arsenal that includes grenades, bazookas, homing missiles, cluster bombs, banana bombs, air strikes, shotguns, and more. Matches are structured in rounds, with each worm beginning at 100 hit points. Teams alternate turns, and each active worm typically has 60 seconds to reposition and execute a single attack. A 20-minute overall round timer adds further pressure — if it expires without a winner, all worms drop to 1 hit point, triggering sudden death. Supply crates and a rising water level introduce additional tactical considerations throughout. Custom schemes, team creation, and multiple battlefield settings provide additional variety.
