Yakuza 2 is an action role-playing beat 'em up developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios and released in 2006 for PlayStation 2, with later ports to PlayStation 3 and Wii U. Returning protagonist Kazuma Kiryu navigates the criminal underworld across two Japanese cities — Tokyo and Osaka — as he works to prevent an escalating gang war involving rival factions, law enforcement, and the Korean mafia. The narrative spans more than 16 story chapters written by novelist Hase Seishu, who also authored the script for the original Yakuza, lending the game a cinematic quality marked by complex plotting and frequent dramatic turns. Combat involves direct, hard-hitting confrontations against a range of enemies encountered throughout urban back alleys and criminal territories. The game continues the franchise's emphasis on grounded crime fiction set within a stylized but detailed portrait of contemporary Japan.
