Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Spirit Caller is a card-based strategy game developed by Konami for the Nintendo DS, released in 2006. Set at the Duel Academy from the GX animated series, the player begins as a new student assigned to the Slifer Red dormitory. Shortly after the school year starts, mysterious events unfold on campus, and the player becomes connected to a benevolent spirit duelist who aids in both dueling and uncovering the source of these disturbances. Core gameplay centers on turn-based card dueling, drawing from a pool of over 1,500 cards that players can organize into custom decks. Character appearance is also customizable. Beyond the single-player narrative, the game supports head-to-head multiplayer through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, allowing matches against opponents worldwide. Each physical copy of the game included three exclusive trading cards.
The player is on a ship, on their way to Duel Academy, with their friends Jaden Yuki and Syrus Truesdale. The player is placed in the Slifer Red dorm, and soon after, strange things begin to happen. As soon as these odd occurrences begin, you start hearing the voice of a duel spirit. This spirit is a good spirit and will help you duel and solve the mysteries surrounding the Duel Academy. The story loosely follows the events of the anime, only the player takes place of Jaden's duels. Such as Dimitri stealing Yugi's Deck, and the player getting it back. The game mostly covers the anime, from the beginning to the Dark Zane arc. Because the game is based on the anime, some major and minor characters will appear. It also includes a lot of characters exclusive to Spirit Caller; they are featured as minor characters. You will later duel all 7 Shadow Riders and other parts of Season One then you will enter a tournament after.
