Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is a role-playing game developed by Cattle Call and released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2, later made available on PlayStation 4. The fourth installment in the Arc the Lad series, it is set in a world shared uneasily by humans and a race called the Deimos, where five great Spirit Stones maintain balance. When a human army begins seizing those stones, the Spirits designate two champions to oppose them: Kharg, a human nobleman harboring deep resentment toward the Deimos, and Darc, a Deimos slave who aspires to lead his people. The game alternates chapters between the two protagonists, each commanding a separate party. Exploration follows a conventional Japanese RPG structure, with towns and dungeons navigated in standard fashion. Combat is tactical, allowing free character positioning on the battlefield, while a spirit-point system lets characters accumulate SP during fights and spend it to unlock special attacks. Active parties consist of up to six combatants.
