Cooking Mama is a cooking simulation game developed by Office Create, released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS and iOS. Players work through a collection of 96 recipes, each broken down into a sequence of short minigames representing individual preparation steps such as chopping, mixing, and frying. The Nintendo DS version makes deliberate use of both screens, with the top screen displaying instructions and the bottom touch screen serving as the interactive surface for each task. Minigame mechanics vary considerably — slicing ingredients requires drawing rapid parallel lines, while adding items to a pan involves rhythm-based timing to hit precise moments. Failing to complete a step before time runs out, or making a significant error, counts as a failure for that stage. When this occurs, the game's titular character, Mama, appears visibly furious — flames rising from her eyes — before reassuring the player that she will correct the mistake.
