A role-playing game for the Nintendo DS developed by Nintendo SPD, Red Entertainment, M2, and Artdink and published by Nintendo, Fossil Fighters centers on the excavation and restoration of fossils to create living creatures called Vivosaurs, which are then used in battle. Players dig fossils out of the ground using the DS touchscreen and stylus, with the quality of each excavation directly affecting the strength of the resulting Vivosaur. Restored creatures are deployed in turn-based combat against rival fighters and enemy forces. The game blends collection mechanics with strategic battling, as players build teams from a roster of different Vivosaur types, each with distinct elemental affinities and abilities. Originally released in Japan in April 2008 under the title Bokura wa Kasekihoridā, it reached North America in August 2009 and spawned two sequels on the DS and Nintendo 3DS.
