Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is a standalone racing simulator developed by Polyphony Digital for PlayStation 3, released in 2007 as a preview of the full Gran Turismo 5. It follows a similar tradition to Gran Turismo 4 Prologue, which preceded that installment by roughly a year. The game was later updated to Spec III (version 3.0) from October 2008, expanding its content and features. In its final form, it offers over 70 cars, including tuned variants, across 6 tracks with 12 distinct layouts. Online play supports up to 16 simultaneous competitors. Technically, races run at 60 frames per second, while replays are rendered at 30, and the game supports LPCM 7.1-channel high-definition audio. The release effectively replaced the earlier Gran Turismo HD Concept, serving as a substantial taste of what the mainline sequel would deliver.
