Halo Wars 2: Awakening the Nightmare is a real-time strategy expansion developed by 343 Industries, released in 2017 for Xbox One and PC via Microsoft Windows. It requires the base Halo Wars 2 game to play and is sold separately from the Season Pass. The expansion places players in control of the Banished faction across a new single-player campaign centered on conflict with the Flood, the parasitic enemy from Halo's broader universe. Multiplayer content is expanded with additional leaders, units, and maps. A cooperative mode called Terminus Firefight challenges players to defend positions against waves of enemies. On Xbox One X and Windows 10, the expansion supports 4K Ultra HD graphics and HDR rendering, taking advantage of enhanced hardware capabilities where available.
