Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is a role-playing adventure developed by AlphaDream and released in 2005 for the Nintendo DS, later available on Wii U. A sequel to Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the game begins when Princess Peach returns from a time machine voyage transformed — replaced by a monster. Investigating the cause, Mario and Luigi travel into the past and discover that an alien race called the Shroobs has invaded and conquered the Mushroom Kingdom. In the course of their mission to repel the invasion and rescue Peach, the brothers encounter their younger selves, and all four characters must work together. The game combines puzzle-solving and turn-based RPG combat across both time periods, maintaining the comedic tone established by its predecessor while expanding the cast and introducing the cooperative four-character dynamic as its central mechanic.
