Released in 2010 for the Wii and later the Wii U, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a 3D platformer developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development and the direct sequel to Super Mario Galaxy. The game retains the space setting and gravity-based mechanics of its predecessor, including traversal tools such as Launch Stars and Sling Stars, along with returning power-ups like the Bee Mushroom and Fire Flower. Building on that foundation, it introduces several new elements: Yoshi appears as a rideable companion, and the Cloud Flower is among the newly added power-ups. The game also includes an in-game guide intended to assist less experienced players. As the fourth three-dimensional entry in the Mario platformer series, Super Mario Galaxy 2 expands its predecessor's core design while layering in additional mechanics and content across its space-themed worlds.

As he peered cautiously through the reeds, he saw a small, lost Luma. With the baby Luma tucked safely under his cap, Mario rushed on to the castle. But when he got there, something unexpected was waiting for him…
