Released in 2013 for the Wii U, Super Mario 3D World is a platformer developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development and a follow-up to Super Mario 3D Land on the Nintendo 3DS. Like its predecessor, levels are structured linearly in the tradition of the 2D Mario titles, with players navigating to a Goal Pole under a time limit. The game's most notable addition is simultaneous multiplayer for up to four players, marking the first time a 3D Mario title has supported cooperative play. Before each level, players choose from a roster of characters, each with distinct strengths and weaknesses. The Cat power-up serves as the game's signature transformation, granting the ability to climb walls, perform melee attacks, and jump in midair. The game also incorporates Wii U-specific functionality through the GamePad, including touch-screen interactions and microphone use to uncover hidden items and dispatch enemies.
While having a walk in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario, Toad and Peach, and Luigi happen on one of the many green pipes, yet a special one. A fairy, which they'll learn is Princess Sprixie, comes out. Bowser is chasing after her, though: he kidnaps her and vanishes through the pipe. Mario and the friends of his can't but promptly jump into the pipe, and they find themselves in the Sprinxie Kingdom, tasked with rescuing the princess.
