Phantasy Star Zero is an action role-playing game developed by Sonic Team and released for the Nintendo DS in 2008. Set on an alternate Earth two centuries after a catastrophic conflict known as the Great Blank, the game depicts a civilization rebuilt from near-total ruin, where roving fighters called Hunters venture beyond city limits to battle monsters and protect what remains of human society. Players build a character from three races and multiple classes, with gender selection factored in across 14 distinct character configurations, each offering meaningfully different playstyles. Combat draws from a hack-and-slash foundation supported by an arsenal of over 350 weapons alongside varied armor and equipment. As players progress through the wilderness and its enemies, the narrative gradually exposes the true history of the Great Blank and introduces a new threatening force underlying the world's fragile recovery.
The game features three different main stories, starting with Humans, CAST and Newmans. Each storyline is different, but in the end they all are connected.
