Resistance 2 is a first-person shooter developed by Insomniac Games, released in 2008 exclusively for PlayStation 3. Set in the aftermath of a failed effort to halt the Chimera invasion across Europe, the game shifts the conflict to the United States as humanity attempts a final defense against the alien force. The single-player campaign introduces a new arsenal of weapons and pits players against large-scale boss encounters. Online multiplayer is a central feature, offering a standalone cooperative mode for up to eight players built around class-based teamwork, as well as competitive multiplayer supporting up to 60 simultaneous participants. The combination of an expansive solo campaign and these two distinct online components represented a significant technical and design undertaking for console gaming at the time of its release.
Resistance 2 places players in the heroic role of Sgt. Nathan Hale as he struggles against overwhelming odds to defend mankind from the unstoppable Chimera. While wrestling with this insidious war machine, Hale must also battle the virus raging inside of his own body that threatens to transform him into the very creatures he fights against.
