Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny is a role-playing and life-simulation hybrid developed by Neverland, released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Wii. The story centers on Aden and Sonja, two friends from Fenith Island who wake to find their souls sharing a single body after a mysterious curse takes hold. Compounding this predicament, their familiar home has vanished, replaced by an unfamiliar island filled with strangers. Gameplay involves exploring this new world to unravel the curse and restore what was lost, with a varied cast of characters joining the effort along the way. A notable mechanic involves commanding Ymir, an enormous golem, to navigate open seas, uncover hidden islands, and delve into dungeons. Combat extends to battles against large sea creatures encountered during these voyages. The dual narrative of supernatural affliction and island exploration ties the RPG and simulation elements together throughout the experience.
