Samurai Warriors: Chronicles is a hack-and-slash title developed by Omega Force and released in 2011 as a launch game for the Nintendo 3DS. Rather than following a fixed hero through a dedicated storyline as in earlier entries in the series, players create either a male character armed with a dai-katana and rifle or a female character wielding dual swords, then guide that custom protagonist through a personal narrative that intersects with various warring factions. Up to four characters can be fielded in battle, with the player able to switch between them at will, the camera shifting to each character's position on the battlefield accordingly. The 3DS hardware is put to practical use: the top screen displays the main action while the bottom screen presents maps, kill counts, and mission objectives, keeping tactical information accessible without interrupting gameplay.
