Serious Sam: Next Encounter is a first-person shooter developed by Climax Group and released in 2004 for Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2. The game pits Sam "Serious" Stone against Mini Sam, an evil clone who has seized control of the timelock and is using it to erase ancient civilizations throughout history. Players pursue this new antagonist across more than 40 levels set in three distinct historical settings: Ancient Rome, Feudal China, and Legendary Atlantis. The full single-player campaign supports two-player cooperative play, and competitive multiplayer includes Deathmatch, Hold the Flag, and Pass the Bomb modes. The PlayStation 2 version supports up to eight players online via the broadband adapter, as well as two-player local play, while the GameCube version accommodates up to four players locally on a single console.
