Sonic and the Secret Rings is a three-dimensional action platformer developed by Sonic Team and released for the Wii in 2007. The game features Sonic the Hedgehog as the sole playable character, moving through stages in an on-rails format where forward momentum is largely automatic. Control is handled entirely through the Wii Remote, held horizontally in the manner of a conventional gamepad rather than used with motion gestures. The on-rails structure distinguishes it from traditional free-roaming platformers in the series, channeling gameplay toward speed, timing, and moment-to-moment reactions as Sonic navigates each linear path.
