Developed by Beenox and released in 2007 for PC and Xbox 360, Spider-Man: Friend or Foe is a beat 'em up action-adventure game drawing inspiration from the first three Sam Raimi Spider-Man films. The game takes a comedic approach to its source material, reimagining key cinematic moments and confrontations with a lighthearted tone. Players battle recognizable Marvel villains across international locations including Tokyo, Egypt, and Nepal, and after defeating enemies in boss encounters, can recruit them as sidekicks. These converted allies fight alongside Spider-Man in cooperative multiplayer, which supports a second player controlling one of the available sidekick characters. The roster of companions is drawn from the broader Marvel Comics universe. The game was removed from digital storefronts on January 1, 2014, alongside other Activision titles that had operated under a Marvel licensing agreement.
