Star Trek: Encounters is an arcade-style shooter released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2, developed around the five Star Trek television series — Enterprise, The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. Players pilot starships from each era through three distinct modes. Episode Mode follows a mission structure spanning all five series in chronological order, during which players collect additional ships and command crew character cards that enhance the capabilities of their respective vessels. Skirmish Mode allows immediate entry into single or multiplayer combat using ships and abilities already unlocked. A dedicated Multiplayer Mode pits players against each other in combat campaigns to determine who lasts longest in battle. Each starship has access to a full range of franchise-appropriate weaponry and equipment, including phasers, photon and quantum torpedoes, shields, scanners, mines, tractor beams, and transporters.
