StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void is the third and final standalone expansion to Blizzard Entertainment's real-time strategy series, released in 2015 for Windows and Mac. Players control Hierarch Artanis, leader of the protoss, as he commands the Golden Armada in an effort to retake the protoss homeworld of Aiur after its conquest by the zerg. The campaign's central conflict revolves around an ancient enemy named Amon, whose threat extends beyond Aiur to the entire galaxy, forcing Artanis to unite the fractured protoss factions against a common darkness. Alongside the single-player campaign, the game features competitive multiplayer, which remains the foundation of the StarCraft II esports ecosystem, as well as cooperative and archon modes that expand options beyond traditional one-on-one play. The expansion concludes the narrative arc that began with Wings of Liberty.
