Released in 2001 by Nintendo R&D2, Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World is a Game Boy Advance remake of the classic Super Nintendo platformer, later made available on Wii U. Players navigate Mario through side-scrolling levels alongside Yoshi, the dinosaur companion making his series debut in this title. The second entry in the four-part Super Mario Advance series, which brought NES and SNES-era Mario games to the handheld, this remake features adjusted graphics and audio along with additional content not present in the original release. The package also includes the arcade classic Mario Bros., which supports multiplayer via Game Boy Advance link cable. The Super Mario Advance series as a whole represents Nintendo's effort to adapt its landmark platformers for portable play while offering enough new content to distinguish each release from its source material.
