Tales of Hearts R is a role-playing game developed by Namco Bandai Games, released in 2013 for PlayStation Vita and iOS. It is a remake of Tales of Hearts: Anime Movie Edition, a Nintendo DS title that had previously remained exclusive to Japan. The game features a revamped combat system called the Aerial Chase Linear Motion Battle System, which allows players to launch enemies into the air and pursue them mid-flight. The narrative experience draws from both the original game's cutscenes and newly produced animated sequences, presenting an expanded version of the story. The cast of playable party members has also been enlarged beyond what was available in the original release, offering additional companions throughout the journey. The title represents a substantially updated version of its source material across both presentation and gameplay mechanics.
Kor Meteor is a young man living in a small village by the sea and training in the ways of the sword under his grandfather's tutelage, who bequeaths to him an unusual weapon known as a Soma, which can harness the power of a person's Spiria--the embodiment of their heart and soul. Kor encounters a travelling pair of siblings, Kohaku and her brother Hisui. However, in an unexpected turn of events, Kor accidentally shatters Kohaku's Spiria Core, the source of her emotions. Now, the trio must embark on a journey to make Kohaku's heart whole once more.
