Tales of Phantasia is a role-playing game developed by Wolf Team and published by Namco in 1995 for the Super Famicom, serving as the founding entry in the long-running Tales series. The game was notable at the time of its release for pushing the Super Famicom's hardware to its limits through technically ambitious graphics. Its battle system introduced a real-time combat approach that had not been seen in the genre before. The game also incorporated voice acting, a rare feature for the platform, and went a step further by including a fully original, vocalized theme song performed within the game itself — a distinction it holds as the first and only Super Famicom title to do so. Tales of Phantasia begins by showing a heroic battle between four unknown warriors against an evil sorcerer, Dhaos, the outcome of which changed the fate of the world. The warriors are victorious, but Dhaos escapes through time. However, four different heroes await him: they seal the weakened Dhaos away by using the power of two pendants, thus returning peace to the world.
