The House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut is a rail shooter developed by Headstrong Games and released on PlayStation 3 in 2011. Set in a grindhouse B-movie aesthetic, the game casts players against waves of zombies and mutants across nine levels — seven remastered from the original release and two exclusive to this version. The Extended Cut presents the action in stereoscopic 3D with remastered HD visuals. Gameplay centers on eliminating enemies across on-rails stages, with this version introducing new baby mutant enemy types and a crossbow capable of firing explosive bolts, both of which expand the combat options available in earlier iterations of the game. The title maintains the arcade-style, score-driven structure the series is known for while offering enhanced presentation and additional content tailored to the PlayStation 3 platform.
In 1991, rookie AMS agent G and Detective Isaac Washington investigate disappearances and a mutant outbreak in Bayou City, Louisiana. They storm the mansion of Papa Caesar, a crime lord who killed Isaac's father. Caesar flees, while disabled scientist Jasper Guns, whom Caesar used, is mutated after injecting himself with an unknown substance. After defeating Jasper, G and Isaac meet his sister, stripper Varla Guns, who seeks revenge on Caesar.
