Released in 2008 by Turbine, Mines of Moria is the first major expansion for the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online, available on Windows and Mac. The expansion takes players deep into Moria, the vast underground complex in north-western Middle-earth, while also opening up the elven region of Lórien. The level cap rises from 50 to 60, and the Epic storyline gains six additional books. Two new character classes enter the game — the Rune-keeper and the Warden — broadening the options available at character creation. On the technical side, the expansion introduces environment-aware AI, dynamic lighting, and a revised weapon enhancement system. Together these additions represent a substantial extension of the base game's content, deepening both the narrative and mechanical foundations of Turbine's Middle-earth role-playing experience.
