Way of the Samurai 2 is an action RPG developed by ACQUIRE Corp. and released in 2003 for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. Set in feudal Japan, the game places a wandering samurai at the center of a conflict engulfing the troubled town of Amahara. Combat emphasizes realistic swordfighting techniques drawn from traditional samurai martial arts, supported by a roster of more than 60 distinct weapons to acquire and wield. A central feature is the game's branching moral structure: choices made throughout the story — including whether to protect the innocent or align with corrupt factions — directly shape the narrative's outcome, leading to multiple possible endings. This decision-driven approach gives the relatively compact setting considerable replayability, as different allegiances unlock different paths through Amahara's escalating unrest.
The player, a starving ronin (Samurai without a lord), collapses at the gate of a renowned trading town called Amahara. When aided by a little girl the ronin is then introduced to the life of a samurai, whose decisions can give rise to various factions or lead to their destruction, or even stay out of the politics of the those factions.
