Xevious is a vertically scrolling shoot-em-up developed by Namco and released in arcades in 1982, later ported to numerous home platforms including the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Apple II, and several Japanese home computers, among others. The player pilots the Solvalou Fighter, a craft equipped to engage threats on two planes simultaneously — a forward-firing cannon handles airborne enemies such as Toroid Patrol Fleets and Zoshi Death Squads, while a separate bomb system targets ground-based units like Domogram Rovers. The overarching objective is to penetrate the Xevious invasion forces and destroy their Mother Ship. The game's premise frames the conflict as a struggle for Earth's reclamation by the Xevions, its purported original inhabitants. Xevious is widely recognized as an early and influential example of the vertically scrolling shooter genre.
The game begins with Solvalou fighters flying over the Xevious enemy territory. You are controlling Solvalou with its anti-aircraft missiles and surface bombs. Your goal is to destroy the enemy and proceed on your mission.
