Animal Crossing: New Leaf is a life simulation game developed by Nintendo EAD Software Development Group No.2, released in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS. Players take on the role of mayor in a small animal-populated village, giving them greater authority over its growth and direction than in previous entries in the series. This leadership position allows players to commission public works projects and other installations that shape the village's identity and layout in personalized ways. The game also incorporates the 3DS's StreetPass functionality, enabling players to browse the homes of other players encountered through passive wireless connections. As with earlier installments in the franchise, the focus remains on gradual community building, daily routines, and open-ended customization rather than structured objectives or combat.
