DJ Hero is a music rhythm game developed by FreeStyleGames and released in 2009 for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360. The game centers on turntablism, simulating the art of mixing multiple recorded tracks into mashups using a dedicated wireless turntable controller. The peripheral features three stream buttons, a crossfader, an effects dial, a Euphoria button, and a detachable section for left-handed play. Gameplay unfolds on a spinning virtual record, where notes travel in an arc and correspond to two source songs and an additional sample layer. Players manage the crossfader to shift volume balance between tracks, execute scratching sections by physically rotating the turntable, and build Euphoria power to double their score multiplier. A Rewind meter allows players to correct mistakes. Unlike Guitar Hero, failing a track entirely is not possible. The game includes a single-player career, local and online competitive and cooperative multiplayer, a DJ vs. Guitar mode compatible with guitar controllers, microphone support, and a Party Play option.
