Guitar Hero II is a music rhythm game developed by Harmonix Music Systems, released in 2006 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360. Players use a guitar-shaped controller to hit notes in time with a selection of rock tracks, progressing through Career mode to unlock new songs and venues on the path to becoming a top performer. Outside of Career, Quickplay allows access to any previously unlocked song without structural progression. The game also includes multiplayer options that support both cooperative and competitive play. Building on the foundation of its predecessor, Guitar Hero II expands the song roster and stage variety, making it a central entry in the franchise's rise as a defining music gaming series of the mid-2000s.
