Developed by Toys for Bob and released in 2005, Madagascar is a platformer and adventure game based on the DreamWorks animated film of the same name. Available on PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and PC, it follows the movie's storyline across multiple chapters, moving from the Central Park Zoo through New York City and eventually to a San Diego zoo setting. Players control five distinct characters — Marty the Zebra, Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, Melman the Giraffe, and the Penguins — each assigned to different stages and each carrying a unique set of combat and traversal abilities. Marty can slide and long-jump, Alex uses claws and a roar, Gloria relies on body-based attacks augmented by chili peppers, Melman can spin and glide, and the Penguins employ a finishing strike. Chapters contain multiple optional goals, encouraging replay. Collectibles include Life Tikis and Monkey Money, the latter spent at a shop to unlock minigames and character outfits.
