Released in 2009 for the Wii, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is a sports title developed by Sega Sports R&D that brings together characters from Nintendo's Mario series and Sega's Sonic franchise under the official license of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. The game offers 27 events, each designed as a motion-controlled mini-game making use of the Wii's movement-based input, with optional compatibility for the Balance Board peripheral. Disciplines include skiing, snowboarding, bobsleigh, figure skating, and ice hockey, among others. Beyond the standard Olympic events, a separate category of Dream Events provides stylized takes on the competition with enhanced visuals and modified rules. Players can tackle events individually or participate in a Festival Mode structured across a 17-day schedule, mirroring the format of an actual Olympic Games. The title serves as a follow-up to the original Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.
