Released in 2021 for the Nintendo Switch, New Pokémon Snap is an on-rails first-person photography simulator developed by Bandai Namco Studios and published jointly by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. A sequel to the 1999 Nintendo 64 title Pokémon Snap, the game places players aboard an autopilot hovercraft that carries them through a series of environments across a tropical archipelago. The primary activity is photographing wild Pokémon in their natural habitats, with the goal of building a research record of their ecological behaviors. Because the hovercraft follows a set path automatically, the gameplay centers on observation, timing, and interaction with the environment to coax Pokémon into revealing different behaviors before the camera. The combination of a passive traversal system and active photographic challenges gives the game a distinctive feel within the broader simulation and adventure genres.
