Pokémon Sword is a role-playing game developed by Game Freak and released in 2019 for Nintendo Switch. Set in the newly introduced Galar region, it continues the series' established formula of catching, training, and battling creatures called Pokémon in turn-based combat. Players take on the role of a trainer navigating this new region, challenging gym leaders and working toward becoming Champion. The Galar region draws inspiration from the United Kingdom, featuring diverse environments ranging from rural countryside to large cities. The game introduces new Pokémon species and region-specific variants of existing ones, alongside new battle mechanics including the Dynamax system, which temporarily enlarges Pokémon during certain battles. Pokémon Sword is paired with the companion title Pokémon Shield, with each version featuring exclusive Pokémon and a version-specific Legendary. The game supports both single-player progression and multiplayer trading and battling features.
