NHL 06 is an ice hockey simulation developed by EA Canada and released in 2005 for Xbox, PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and PC. A follow-up to NHL 05, it updates the roster with current National Hockey League players and incorporates rule changes alongside several gameplay refinements. The left analog stick handles deking — faking out and evading defenders — while the right analog stick enables advanced moves such as spins and between-the-legs passes that can open scoring opportunities against goalkeepers. These flashier techniques are largely restricted to superstar-tier players. Graphical improvements include more accurate proportions between player types, with larger defenders and goalkeepers visually distinguishable from smaller, faster forwards. Game modes carry over from the previous entry and include dynasty mode, where players manage a franchise while balancing team philosophy, sponsors, and external pressures, alongside single season, leagues, tournaments, quick game, and online play.
