NHL 13 is an ice hockey simulation game developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports, released in September 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The 22nd entry in the long-running NHL series, it features Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux on its cover, following a public elimination-style vote that drew over 25 million ballots worldwide before closing in June 2012. Commentary is provided by Gary Thorne and Bill Clement, returning from NHL 12. A notable addition to the roster is the inclusion of two real-life female players — Hayley Wickenheiser and Angela Ruggiero — marking the first time actual female athletes have appeared as playable characters in the series. A Stanley Cup Collector's Edition was also made available, bundling Hockey Ultimate Team packs, a Wayne Gretzky legend card, and additional in-game items. The game recorded the strongest opening-week sales in franchise history at the time of its release.
