NHL 12 is an ice hockey simulation developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports, released in September 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos serves as the cover athlete, having been announced at the 2011 NHL Awards Show. The game builds on its predecessor with a refined physics engine and more interactive goaltender behavior, allowing physical contact between goalies and skaters — including the possibility of fights involving goalies. Other additions include an improved Be a Pro career mode and the option to play a recreation of the 2011 NHL Winter Classic. Commentary is handled by Gary Thorne on play-by-play and Bill Clement in the color role, a pairing carried over from NHL 11. The game was also showcased at the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo prior to its release.
