Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a hack-and-slash action-adventure game developed by Capcom Production Studio 2 and released for PlayStation 2 in 2002, serving as the direct sequel to the original Onimusha. Players control Jubei, a samurai whose quest is shaped in part by the decisions made throughout the game. A core element carried over from the first entry is a combat system built around multiple special weapons that can be strengthened by defeating enemies. Expanding on its predecessor, this installment introduces four additional playable characters, each woven into the central narrative. Whether these supporting figures choose to aid Jubei depends on the player's choices, creating a branching sense of involvement. Capcom's development team incorporated these characters specifically to add narrative depth and broaden the overall feeling of adventure beyond what the original game offered.
Set in ancient Japan, the plot revolves around a new main protagonist, Jubei Yagyu, who is on a quest of revenge as he battles a demon army led by Nobunaga Oda, a sinister warlord who eliminated the Yagyu clan. Across his quest, Jubei learns of his oni heritage which grants him powers to slay the demons and meets new allies who also wish to defeat Nobunaga.
