Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams is a hack-and-slash action-adventure game developed by Capcom Production Studio 2 and released in 2006 for PlayStation 2. The fourth entry in the canonical Onimusha main series and sixth overall, it builds on the combat foundations of its predecessors while expanding the action considerably, a direction influenced by the team's experience developing Shadow of Rome. The game introduces a fully three-dimensional camera, a broader range of weapons than earlier entries, and a companion system in which AI-controlled characters fight alongside the player and respond to issued orders. Stages from earlier in the game can be revisited to uncover additional content. Developed in response to strong fan demand, the title was deliberately aimed at skilled players rather than a general audience, a design philosophy reflected in its stylized, non-realistic visual approach.
The plot is set in ancient Japan decades after the events of Onimusha 3: Demon Siege and focuses on Soki, a warrior who possesses Oni powers. Soki is on a quest to stop Hideyoshi Toyotomi, who has unified Japan in league with his demonic army of Genma, and he also joins forces with several allies who share the same goal.
