Star Fox 64 is an on-rails third-person shooter developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development and released in 1997 for the Nintendo 64, with later availability on Wii and Wii U. A follow-up to the Super NES original, it follows Fox McCloud and his team — Peppy Hare, Falco Lombardi, and Slippy Toad — through more than 15 levels spread across easy, medium, and hard route paths. Stages combine forward-scrolling corridors with fully traversable 3D environments, and players pilot not only the series' signature Arwing fighter but also a hover tank and a submarine. Full voice acting from 23 characters replaces the original's animal sounds. A four-player split-screen multiplayer mode is included. The game holds a notable place in hardware history as the first title to support Nintendo's Rumble Pak accessory. It was released in Europe under the title Lylat Wars.
Mad scientist Andross arises as the emperor of Venom and declares war on the entire Lylat System, starting with Corneria. General Pepper sends in the Star Fox team to protect the key planets of the Lylat System and stop Dr. Andross.
